The Mega Millions multi-state lottery grand prize increased to $251,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$112.3 million) Friday night when there were no jackpot winners in the $232,000,000 drawing, lottery officials said. The winning numbers from Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 drawing were 17-32-35-40-47 and the Mega Ball was 17, Megaplier was . The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing for 118 draws since Friday, March 28th, 2025.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in IL, matched all six numbers for a $344 million top prize.
Although the grand prize was not awarded Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were a total of 5 third prize lucky winners. These included 5 tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 166 tickets that matched four white ball numbers and won $500. 414 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With 9 ways to win, there were 501,170 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 drawing.
Mega Millions lottery can be played in 43 states and D.C. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prizes. About 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. Around 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday night at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. To play, pick 5 numbers from a set of 70 and pick 1 Mega Ball number from a set of 25. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners can choose one time lump sum cash payout instead.
