The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing soars to $323 million

The grand prize in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery game continues to increase exciting players all across the nation. Because nobody correctly matched all six winning numbers in Friday's drawing the grand prize will climb to an estimated $323 million! The lump-sum cash payout will be a projected $234.9 million. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, August 31st, 2021 were 08-14-31-58-68 with Mega Ball 15 and Megaplier 3. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling over for 821 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
While the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with large winnings. There were two lucky winners matched all 5 white ball numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The two lucky ticket(s) purchased in , each won one quarter million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
In addition, 22 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 414 tickets that matched four white ball numbers and won $500. There were 0 tickets that matched three white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
There were 141,982 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 70991 grand prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York.
With nine different prize levels, there were 1,687,554 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prizes. About 15% goes to retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. Roughly 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday night at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The overall odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners can select one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.
